Itinerary and History
ongoing - Richard continues recording his debut album at Hale
Kua Studio and Prema Music Studio
with Daren Chadwick
co-producing and engineering.
January 2006 - Richard decides to finish the Concrete Buddha project
as a solo album. He enlists the help of his friend Daren Chadwick as producer
and engineer.
May 2005 - Richard transfers the original Concrete Buddha analog
16 track recordings to Digital Performer, a computer-based music recording
system.
October 2003 - Lynn changes her name to Lalita
and begins a creative music writing period.
September 2, 2003 - Richard and Lynn are rear-ended severely while
stopped in their car on a Santa Cruz, California city street. They eventually
win damages from the other party, but Richard is unable to work in the studio
or play music for three months.
May 25, 2003 - Concrete Buddha is the house band for an appearance
by 2004 presidential candidate U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Oh) at the Santa
Cruz Veteran's Hall. Concrete Buddha is: Richard Karst (vocals, guitar,
horns, steel), Lynn Karst (vocals), Chris Boland (guitar, keyboards, vocals),
Dan Robbins (bass, vocals), Doug Smolens (drums).
spring 2003 - Richard reforms Concrete Buddha with Lynn Karst (vocals),
Chris Boland (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Dan Robbins (bass), and Doug Smolens
(drums)
early 2003 - Richard reforms the band with Lynn Karst (vocals), Jason
Schimmel (guitar), Jeff Attridge (keyboards), Dan Robbins (bass), and Doug
Smolens (drums). The project falls apart after two months due to some members'
performance schedule conflicts.
November 1997 - "English Bhajans and Suprabhatam" by HeartVoice
(Lynn Burns and Richard Karst) is considered for a Grammy nomination in
the first round of Grammy balloting. That same month, Richard and Lynn are
married on November 2.
March 1997 - Concrete Buddha dissolves. Richard works full-time as
a record producer and recording engineer.
February 21, 1997 - live performance at Costa Brava Santa
Cruz, California.

(vocals, guitar), Lynn Burns (vocals), Victor Revere (bass, vocals), Bruce
Campbell (drums).
November 23, 1996 - recorded first tracks for album: Bruce's
drums for Working Under Cover with Daren Chadwick as head engineer.
Recording continues through December and into January.
November 15, 1996 - live performance at Mobo Sushi Santa Cruz,
California.

(vocals, guitar), Lynn Burns (vocals), Victor Revere (bass, vocals), Bruce
Campbell (drums).
October 31, 1996 - live performance at Monterey Fairgrounds Monterey,
California
Halloween Dance (with The Big Sur Natives & The Lost Boys).

(vocals, guitar), Lynn Burns (vocals), Victor Revere (bass, vocals), Bruce
Campbell (drums).
May 21, 1996 - drummer Bruce Campbell joins Concrete Buddha
April 20, 1996 - live performance at Pacific Cultural Center Santa
Cruz, California
A Benefit for the Pacific Cultural Center with Concrete Buddha: Richard
Karst (vocals, guitar, horns, steel), Bolo Prather (vocals, guitar), Lynn
Burns (vocals), Victor Revere (bass, vocals), Daniel Brubeck (drums). Also
on the bill is another Santa Cruz band, Wellspring.
1993 - Richard Karst and Bolo Prather begin jamming together; together
they write the song "Concrete Buddhas" and their new band is named
after the concrete garden statue of a buddha on Richard's front porch. At
first they just get together to have fun playing music which continues a
few times a year until early 1996 when Richard and Bolo start recording
their songs in Richard's studio. Bolo brought in his friend Daniel Brubeck
to play drums, Victor Revere played bass and Lynn Burns added backup vocals.
Soon after that, Bolo books the band a gig for April 20, 1996.
